Full Professor of Neuroscience and Director of the Brain Institute at the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte. Bachelor's in Biology from the Universidade de Brasília (1993), Master's in Biophysics from the Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro (1994) and Ph.D. in Animal Behavior from the Rockefeller University (2000), with post-doctoral studies in Neurophysiology at Duke University (2005). Has experience in neuroethology, molecular neurobiology, and systems neurophysiology, with an interest on the following subjects: memory, sleep, and dreams; neuronal plasticity; vocal communication; symbolic competence in non-human animals; computational psychiatry, and neuroeducation. Permanent member of UFRN Graduate Programs in Psychobiology (Capes level 6), Bioinformatics (Capes level 5) e Neuroscience (Capes level 4). From 2009-2011, Sidarta Ribeiro served as Secretary of the Brazilian Society for Neuroscience and Behavior. From 2011-2015 he was Chair of the Brazilian Regional Committee of the Pew Latin American Fellows Program in the Biomedical Sciences. Since 2011 he is a member of the Steering Committee of the Latin American School for Education, Cognitive and Neural Sciences (LA School), which in 2014 received the inaugural award Exemplifying the Mission of the International Mind, Brain and Education Society. Group coordinator of the project for the assessment of children at risk for learning disorder (ACERTA - CAPES/Education Observatory). Senior research associate of the FAPESP Research Centre for Innovation and Diffusion in Neuromathematics (Neuromat). Member of the Advisory Board of the Brazilian Platform for Drug Policy, created in 2015. Associate Editor of journals Frontiers in Integrative Neuroscience, Frontiers In Psychology - Language Sciences, Neurobiologia and Basic and Clinic Neuroscience. Member of the "Núcleo de Estudos Interdisciplinares sobre Psicoativos (NEIP)" and NGO "Plantando Consciencia". Nominated in 2016 member of the Latin America Academy of Sciences (ACAL). Member since 2016 of the Advisory Board of the National Network of Science for Education (CpE). Is in favor of maintaining and strenghtening the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation, and supports the return to democratic normality.
