Graduated in Biological Sciences from the University Gama Filho (1980), Master in Plant Pathology from the Institute of Biological Sciences at the University of Brasilia (1984) and PhD from the University of Nottingham (1990). Currently Professor of the Department of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul. Experience in Microbiology and Molecular Genetics and Microorganisms, mainly in cell biology and molecular mechanisms involved in the infection process of a entomopathogen (Metarhizium anisopliae) and human pathogen Cryptococcus neoformans and Cryptococcus gattii. It also works on projects such as: structural and functional analysis of mycoplasma genome and cloning of human pathogens of genes and / or veterinary order to produce recombinant antigens for use in immunodiagnostic and vaccination; production of biodiesel through transesterification by lipases produced by microorganisms and bioremediation of areas contaminated by hydrocarbons. As a researcher at the Biotechnology Center of UFRGS coordinates the Business Incubator (IE-CBiot) whose main mission, to stimulate the creation and strengthening of enterprises and technological projects in biotechnology and related fields. She held the position of Director of the Biotechnology Center of UFRGS (10 / 2007-10 / 2010). Has served as coordinator of the Postgraduate Diploma in Cellular and Molecular Biology Program (PPGBCM) of CBiot-UFRGS (2011/2013 - (2013/2015).
